Service on demand in the Winterthur cantonal hospital

Service on demand in the Winterthur cantonal hospital Interview with Urs Haring, Head of Logistics at the Winterthur cantonal hospital

Some hospitals have already successfully introduced the service on demand product. One such hospital is the Winterthur cantonal hospital: the service was introduced on a trial basis in November 2021 and then expanded and implemented definitively in February 2022. The hospital uses the IoT solution, service on demand, from Post Real Estate Management and Services Ltd, for bed logistics.

Mr Haring, how have users reacted to your new service on demand service?

The reaction from our employees has been consistently positive. The desired bed transport service can be requested easily by pressing a button. The relevant person in the logistics team immediately receives a notification via SMS or e-mail. The new process is simple and efficient. During hectic daily proceedings, service on demand offers relief.

How has service on demand changed daily working life for those involved?

Service on demand creates clear relationships with regards to responsibility and competences. By quickly creating an order and sending notifications directly, our process has been optimized. We can immediately recognize where the need for bed transport exists and can act more quickly. In the beginning, there were a few uncertainties. This means that duplicate orders were sometimes created. But these kinks will no doubt work themselves out in time.

What do you personally consider to be the greatest advantage of service on demand in hospitals?

The IoT solution was installed very quickly and easily. Additional devices were not necessary, nor was an expansion of the internal IT infrastructure. It is very easy to use and there is very little need for training. Service on demand can be used in a wide variety of areas in a hospital, depending on need, and supports employees in their daily working lives.

Where else do you think you could use service on demand?

It is a simple, easily installed and helpful service. I can well imagine service on demand being used to simplify areas of facility management. Thanks to the vast range of ways it can be used, the solution can be of use in many different areas.
